Company History

Incorporated in 1989, American Ergonomics Corporation has invested 15 years developing, manufacturing and patenting its unique seating technology and products. In May of 1992, AEC began the process of shifting its emphasis from product design and development to marketing and licensing its technology. Prior to that, product sales were from test-marketing the first generation of products to the comfort and health oriented, ergonomic niche, and specialty seating markets. Approximately 5,000 Ergomax chairs were sold and are in use today. The company's emphasis is now on optimizing vehicular seating.

Technology

Dynamic seating is the solution for increasing comfort and safety. This ergonomic concept is based on allowing the seat to follow the body's motion. The optimal path of motion is an arcuate path that rotates around the body's center of motion. When seated, the center of motion is proximate to the center of mass of the body. Dynamic seating incorporates both the seat and back motion to fully support the body.This technology applies to many seating applications. In the R&D stage now are the automobile seat technology with several designs in the finished prototype state and the airplane main cabin passenger seating design.

American Ergonomics Corporation has been granted patents that protect its dynamic seat designs, body support system and the Counter Balanced Motion (CBM) vehicular seating invention. These patents were issued in 1987, 1989, 1993, 1995, 1996, and 1998 to Hector Serber and are licensed to AEC. Along with the patent pendings, AEC's patent estate protects all major aspects of what the seating industry recognizes as "articulating seat" technology.
